The tradition of the Sergeant Uday Singh Memorial Debate Competition dates back to its inception in 2006, a tribute to the memory of Sergeant Uday Singh, a former student who made the ultimate sacrifice in 2003 in the Gulf region. With the consent of Uday's parents, our esteemed director, Carver Sir, initiated this competition to ensure that Uday's legacy lives on.
On April 23rd of this year, the Uday Memorial English Debate Competition took place with great fervor and grandeur. Nine teams hailing from various parts of the Tri-City and neighboring areas participated enthusiastically. The chosen topic for the debate was "Should governments prioritize conservation over economic development?"
Each speaker was given four minutes to eloquently present their arguments, followed by a minute allocated for rebuttals. The debates were meticulously judged based on criteria such as content, articulation, confidence, delivery, and rebuttal.
The prestigious Uday Memorial Trophy was awarded to the outstanding team from Holy Angels School, Rajpura, recognized for their exceptional performance. Additionally, the title of the Best Speaker was bestowed upon Ebadat Kaur Brar from St. Stephen's Sector 45B, Chandigarh, in acknowledgment of her exemplary oratory skills.
The competition was adjudicated by two esteemed educationists, Ms. Saryu Rishi and Mr. Ayushman Sinha, who scrutinized every aspect of the event with utmost diligence and attention to detail. Their expertise ensured a fair and rigorous evaluation process, contributing to the success and credibility of the competition.
