His Excellency's Visit to Boost Bilateral Relations
St. Stephen's School, Sector 45 B, Chandigarh on May 10, 2016 was privileged to welcome His Excellency Abdul Basit, Pakistan High Commissioner to India, and his wife Summiya Basit. The event was organized by the NGO Yuvsatta. He was received by the Director Principal, Mr. Harold Carver, Headmaster, Mr. Louis Lopez, Vice-Principal, Mr. Gerald Jacob, along with Scouts and Guides and students of the school. Their visit started by planting an "Amaltas" tree in the school campus. He addressed the children and said that differences should be understood and sorted out. He emphasized that the youth of both the countries represent the hope of the region and they are aware of how important peace between India and Pakistan is, to enhance their potential.
His speech even laid stress on the need to identify institutes in Pakistan and India for a regular exchange programme for students. He spoke about the importance of teachers in each one's life. He added that in the present days values have assumed a peripheral role and success is gauged by materialistic possessions.
The event was graced by number of dignitaries like the Mayor of Chandigarh and other officials.
Mr. Louis Lopez, the Headmaster of the school thanked his Excellency, Abdul Basit for his visit and highlighted the need for more such exchange programmes and visits. The event was concluded by an inspirational song on peace by the school choir.
