The Lamp of Knowledge
February 4 and 5, 2016
'The Lamp of Knowledge' is a sacred ceremony celebrated every year at St. Stephen's. This year too, the school marked the auspicious ritual on the 4th and 5th of February, 2016. This pious ceremony was initiated by the Director Principal, Mr. Harold Carver to inculcate the importance of knowledge in every heart.
The students of class 10 pass the lamp of knowledge to the students of class 9. The passing of the lamp signifies that the brightness, intelligence and wisdom would now be transferred to illuminate another's life. The magnificent event holds a very special place in every Stephenian's heart as at St. Stephen's everyone believes that sharing of knowledge is a way to achieve immortality.
On the 4th of February, the ceremony was hosted by Ms. Arti Khatri and on the 5th of February, by Mr. Vikram Juneja. The students of class 10 A, B, C and 9 A, B, C attended it on the first day and the students of class 10 D, E and 9 D, E on the second day.
The ceremony commenced with a hymn by the English choir of the school followed by the ritual of passing the lamp of knowledge. Each day the students of class 10 of the respective sections were called on the stage and the Vice-Principal, Mr. Gerald Jacob and the Headmaster, Mr. Louis Lopez highlighted the achievements and aspirations of the students which had been beautifully penned by the class teachers based on their experiences of the children. The Hindustani choir of the school sang a melodious hymn. The Headmaster, Mr. Lopez concluded with a few inspiring words.
No event at St. Stephen's can conclude without tasty and sumptuous snacks. Thus at the end, the students and staff were served refreshing snacks prepared by Ms. Indu and Ms. Anjali of the Home Science department.
