Toss reunion - Class of '88
In his speech, Mr. Carver thanked the 1988 batch and expressed his feelings that when the batch attended their farewell in 1988, he did not think ahead for the silver jubilee of the first batch. He expressed his thanks at all the things that had been expressed by the former students who had attended the silver jubilee and also stated that he expected more to be present. Despite the numbers, he expressed his gratitude to God and the celebration of the silver jubilee which was an event of immense proportions.
The former students had expressed and reiterated the bond between Carver sir and all the students of '88 batch. Mr. Carver stated whatever had been expressed had been less because that relationship could not be put into words. He further added that the '88 batch was the star of St. Stephen's and that a Principal could not get closer to children. He felt that this was a bond of trust and loyalty built on the value system. He added that the '88 batch will always belong to the school in a special way. He exhorted the present students to take the example set by the students of the first batch who never refused any task that was assigned to them. The students of the first batch set the example of sacrifice in collection for the land and buildings that were to come and the present edifices in Sector 45 and Togan were something that we owed to the efforts made by the class of '88.
He reiterated that a function like this is minuscule in representing the kind of love and the kind of pride that we have for our students who came to use as raw material in Sector 8 who were ready to receive the imparting of a value system which was meant to permeate their souls. Mr. Carver felt so proud that they were here today to talk about the same value system.
Mr. Carver expressed one regret and that was that when he faced a crisis in '88, he looked for the support and understanding of that value system in return but that was not forthcoming.
Mr. Carver stated that he had distanced himself from the children because of the situation that had been created but exhorted the teachers to forget that and to hold their children as dear as we hold our first batch. He wished all present the very best for the future and told them to visit the school whenever they could even when no event was organised. He stated that he wanted them to realise that we had made a small beginning with them, but that the very identity of St. Stephen's belonged to the past students particularly the class of '88.
Mr. Carver ended his speech asking God to bless the batch today and forever.
