Workshop Report
St. Stephen’s School, Sector 45-B, Chandigarh, in collaboration with the Department of Environment, Chandigarh, organised a one-day State-Level Teachers’ Workshop on “Cultivation of Herbal Plants and Value Addition” on 22 September 2026.
The workshop carried forward the environmental vision of Late Mr. Harold Carver, Founder-Director of St. Stephen’s School, inspiring young minds to respect nature and promote environmental responsibility. The occasion was graced by Sh. Sanjeev Kumar Singla, District Education Officer, UT, Chandigarh.
Principal Barry Francis, in his welcome address, highlighted the school’s herbal nursery as a resource for schools across Chandigarh, offering herbal saplings free of cost to promote herbal gardens.
Chief guest , Mr. Singla addressed the gathering and said that care for environment and nature runs in his blood and motivated teachers to educate students about herbal plants .
Shri Om Parkash Manauli, Herbal Plants Educator, highlighted the work of Eco Clubs of Chandigarh and presented local herbal plants and their traditional uses. Dr. Pushkarveer Singh Bhatia, Ayurvedic practitioner, shared traditional knowledge of medicinal plants including Satyanashi, Gokhru, Ashwagandha, Giloy and Sarpunkha.
Dr. Arun, environmentalist and naturopath, stressed the need to reconnect children with nature and traditional knowledge. Mrs. Baljinder Kaur, Associate Coordinator, Eco Clubs of Chandigarh, demonstrated the preparation of natural herbal Holi colours and highlighted their eco-friendly benefits.
The workshop concluded with a Vote of Thanks was presented by school coordinator , Ms. Suman Malhotra , who expressed gratitude to the organisers, resource persons, teachers and participants for their valuable contribution.
