The Son Obsession

'Give me blood and I will give you freedom'. These famous lines were said by Subhash Chandra Bose- Were they meant only for the sons of the soil?

I'm sorry I will begin with the word '' Pity. It truly is a pity that even after a long span of 65 years of independence the law still has two sides.---That there is no right no wrong , no black or white only shades of gray-I dare to say there are no gray areas when it comes to female infanticide or female foeticide. It's simply wrong.

I agree we have driven long distance since our Independence - more than half a century. We have made significant progress in science and technology but when I think of the gender discrimination it makes me think that all this progress is absolutely worthless. On many occasions we reflect on the progress that women have made in our country and we feel proud- but this pride is short lived and dissipates into a kind of horror and despair.

Why does everyone want a son so much that they are willing to put an end to their daughters? It is said “Investing in a daughter is like watering your neighbour's garden.

Consider the word MOTHER, is it not the epitome of all that is good? August 15 - our Independence Day - Can anyone tell me what coincides with this day? It is the Assumption of our Mother Mary into heaven and Christians believe she is the patron of our country.

Mother India- without her would there have been any Indian? Mother Earth- Part of Mother Earth belongs to India and India alone. Respect for women? It's up to you. When women can respect and accept then why can the same not be shown to them?

The answer is - The son obsession has truly cut a raw deal for women.
We as women want a place in the sun - We want equal rights - Respect us and we will prove our metal more worthy than the dust we all originate from.
